We're still in the Florida Keys, but the wind has kept us off the water since Thursday, so there hasn't been much to report. Meanwhile, we'll continue to post Islamorada photos along with links to articles you may enjoy:

• Fly Fishing: Wire Leaders

“If you fly fish in saltwater, at some point you’ll need to add a trace of wire to your leader in order to catch fish. Bluefish, mackerel, barracuda and sharks all require wire tippet.

“Or, you could donate lots of flies to the fish in question, especially bluefish and mackerel….”

• “Do Not Overcook Fish

“It is a truism that most fish is overcooked much of the time in most restaurants and almost all of the time in most homes.

“Remember this general guideline: cook any cut of fish (or whole fish) for 10 minutes for each inch of thickness at a fairly high temperature (400-degree oven). This rule applies to most methods of fish cookery such as sautéing, braising, baking, grilling, boiling and steaming. Deep-frying takes less time.….”
