• Fishing Report: Western Long Island Sound

“…striped bass are starting to show up in larger numbers…being caught on poppers and peanut bunker during the early morning and evening hours, mostly along beaches and around reefs. Some blues are also being caught, but they too are spread out as they follow schools of bunker.

“...some fishermen are encountering schools of albies (false albacore) as they go after blues [what?***]. Many of the blues are running well over 15 pounds with some bass topping 30 pounds.…”

[what?***] Comment: This is the sort of thing one finds when reading fishing reports written by someone who’s not a fisherman.
