• Connecticut River Still Too Cold for Shad

“Don't bother shad fishing this weekend. By now, we'd normally be catching small male shad that are the vanguard of the big annual spawning run that can number well over 200,000 fish. Males always precede the much larger roe-laden females by at least a week.

”But the Connecticut River is still much too cold for shad to leave the ocean and enter it in significant numbers. River temperatures need to reach 50 degrees….”
