• Striper Regulation Is Needed

“A combination of overfishing and poor environmental conditions, which affect spawning success, collapsed the fishery, and it required strict regulation of commercial and recreational fishermen to allow them to recover. In 1995, striped bass stocks were declared rebuilt, and there’s been a world-class fishery in the years since.

”However, the stock has been in a steady decline since 2003, and fishery scientists determined stripers have declined below the population target level. If we don’t reduce the number of striped bass harvested, the population will once again be declared ‘overfished.’”
