• Raybestos Left A Dangerous Legacy for the Housatonic River


“During Raymark’s 70-year manufacturing operation here, the company cast a wide net of contamination, which included direct dumping of lead, asbestos and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), as well as many other heavy metals and byproducts from its production facility, into lagoons in Stratford that traveled directly into nearby waterways like Ferry Creek, the Housatonic River, and acres of neighboring wetlands.

”The Raymark facility was at 75 East Main Street, known by the EPA as Operable Unit 1 (OU1), where the Stratford Crossing Shopping Center now stands.”
