• Taunton River, Mount Hope Bay


“Those waters have improved considerably since the days when we dug clams and spent the next hour scrubbing the oil from their shells or couldn’t swim in numerous areas because of sewage overflow or oil slicks.

”Through the concerted efforts of many people and organizations, the Taunton River and Mount Hope Bay and the rivers that feed into it have been revitalized, and in many areas where I believed we would never be able to harvest shellfish again we now have a thriving recreational and commercial fishery in the Coles and Lees Rivers.”
