• Connecticut, Long Island Sound, Housatonic River Saltwater Fishing Report: 26 APR 2013

Traffic southbound on I-95 was at a dead stop as Val S. and I passed under the bridge on Friday.

One of these days we're going to get in our cars, go to the end of the driveway, and find traffic is backed up on every road in Connecticut.

Traffic problems didn't keep us from finding fish...here Val battles a schoolie striper on spin gear.

We caught fish early on with the jig and plastic...

...then changed over to the fly rods.

Caught most of the fish on flies...had doubles going several times.

Fish were all schoolie-size, but a blast on the fly rod.

It was one of those days when flies seem to work better than spinning. We had a couple of boats pull up near us, catch nothing, and move on while we continued to catch.

Lunkhead of the Day award goes to this person in a bass-boat who, full-throttle, blasted past where we were fishing...within 100 feet of us. Must be a lot of fun fishing on Candlewood Lake with individuals like this around.

Nice schoolie caught on a blue-over-white Clouser minnow.

This is what my chartreuse-over-white Clouser looked like after the stripers got through with it.
