More Licensed Fishermen in ‘09

“Last year saw an increase of 1.6 percent, or 630,000 anglers in the U.S. Some believe the increase was spurred by the economic downturn that left many without jobs and therefore more time -- and perhaps need -- to fish.”

Good! We’ll Use ‘em for Bait

“The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is gearing up for the 2010 season. DEP's Inland Fisheries Division began its annual spring trout stocking on March 1st, and expects to have 389,000 trout stocked throughout the state by April 17, which is opening day of the 2010 Trout Season.“

Housy Fishing Tough in March

Charlie W. says he was out a couple of times during that warm spell but since then it just been too cold. He also says they’re getting keeper stripers up at O'Sullivan's, but it is strictly a night fishery with big yellow bombers. Some reports of schoolies moving down the river.

Don’t forget, a saltwater fishing license is now required to fish the marine waters of Connecticut. You can purchase one from your local bait & tackle shop, such as Newtown Bait & Tackle, or at Town/City Hall.
